Akadama is a natural Japanese clay substrate with a porous, granular structure that provides an excellent balance of moisture retention, drainage and airflow around the roots.

Traditionally used for bonsai, akadama is also a great addition to substrate mixes for aroids and other houseplants that prefer well-aerated roots. Its porous granules absorb water and nutrients while allowing excess moisture to drain freely.

Use it on its own or mix it with pumice, perlite, lava rock, bark or other substrate components to create a mix adapted to your plants.
